Ditch Plains is an ocean facing beach that is found in Montauk, which is a small town located on the southeastern end of Long Island in New York. The area is made particularly attractive with the scenic cliffs that partially cap the area.

The best known attraction in Montauk is the Montauk Point Lighthouse, which is found on the easternmost point of Long Island's South Fork within the Mountauk Point State Park. The Ditch Plains area also offers a number of museums to visit as well as four other state parks, a county park, and numerous town parks.

Fishing in Ditch Plains

Due to its location in New York, many of the hotels in the Ditch Plains area are only open from April through to November. Some are open for even shorter periods of time. For those interested in coming to the area for fishing, however, there are a few hotels that remain open year round.

The Ditch Plains area has captured the hearts of many famous celebrities throughout the world. The Rolling Stones stayed at the Memory Motel in Montauk during their 1975-76 tour and wrote their song, aptly named "Memory Motel," during their stay. Billy Joel also wrote the song "The Downeaster 'Alexa", a song that tells of a fisherman's journey through Long Island, during a stay in Montauk.

Montauk has also been made famous on film. It was an important location in the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". In addition, the "American Dream Show" is filled every month at one of the seaside resorts in the town.

The most popular method for reaching Montauck in order to get to Ditch Plains is to take the Long Island Expressway from Long Island in New York. If coming from New York, the Hampton Jitney and the Long Island Railroad will both take visitors to Montauk. If coming from New England, the Cross Sound Ferry transports visitors to Orient Point. Ditch Plains is a short drive from here and takes visitors through the charming old port town of Greenport.
