Miami Beach is located in Miami-Dade County in Florida. The area is well known for its Art Deco architecture and, in fact, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The area features the largest collection of the architecture in the world and is features literally hundreds of apartments, hotels, and other buildings that were all built between the years of 1923 and 1943. The Historic District of Miami Beach is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Lenox Court to the west.

One of the tourist attractions found in Miami Beach is Lincoln Road, which runs in an east and west direction between 16th and 17th Street. The road was once open to traffic but is now closed to traffic between Lenox and Washington Avenue. In the area where the road is closed, visitors enjoy a pedestrian mall that includes a large number of sidewalk cafes, shops, galleries, and bars.

South Beach is another popular area of Miami Beach. This section of Miami Beach is comprised of the 23 blocks that make up the southernmost part of the island. This area, which separates the Biscayne Bay from the Atlantic Ocean, was the first part of Miami Beach to be developed. Several natural and manmade changes have taken place with the area throughout the years, both of which have helped make it a booming tourist region.

Another of the sites to see at Miami Beach is the Saxony Hotel. This hotel was designed by the world-renowned architect Roy F. France and was the first luxury resort in Miami beach to include air conditioning.

For those that love flowers, the Miami Beach Botanical Garden is another must-see. This 4.5 acre garden offers a variety of palms as well as a Japanese garden, bromeliads, orchids, and a topiary.

The artificially made Flagler Memorial Island is also found on Miami Beach. The island features a 110 foot high obelish, which is a sculpture that pays tribute to Henry M. Flagler. Flagler was a real estate tycoon and railroad developer that partnered with the more famous Rockefeller. Flagler was responsible for much of the development of the eastern coast of Florida.

Those that are hip to the fashion world will be thrilled to visit the Miami Beach home of Giovanni Versace. The Italian designer is renown throughout the world for his designes and theater costumes and is considered to be one of the greatest talents of the 20th century.
